The Vicarage, Cheshire

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Hi dog pals,

Last night Hum & I stayed at the The Vicarage Freehouse & Rooms in Cheshire as I had been invited to review it. @VicarageChesh

When we arrived we got an exceptionally friendly welcome from Karen who knew who we were and made a HUGE fuss of me. Excellent service from the start that continued throughout our stay.

Karen showed me all the areas that were dog friendly – the tiled areas downstairs where we would have dinner and the conservatory for breakfast – lovely rooms. There was also a nice seating area in front of a fire near the entrance to the pub.

Our room was one of the 6 Signature Rooms in the old part of The Vicarage. It was a lovely big spacious room and Hum loved the décor!

I was pleased to see there were 2 dog bowls provided (lots of places only give you 1). I also found a note with a goodie bag and blankie waiting for me on the bed! The bag contained a welcome note, treats, poo bags and a map! Karen had already shown us where to go for a walk but I showed Hum the map in case she forgot and got us lost.

I enjoyed my treat while Hum unpacked and settled us in.

Now for the Human folk – the good stuff is as follows:

  • Coffee machine and kettle

  • Boxes containing Tea; Coffee bags; milk; sugar; biscuits and they also sent up some fresh milk for Hum

  • The bed was enormous with 6 fluffy pillows and crisp linen which Hum loved

  • There was a good sized wardrobe with a full length mirror

  • The bathroom was large and had both bath and huge rainshower (another thing Hum loves).

  • There was a HUGE mirror in the bathroom for Hum to do make-up and stuff.

Now for the things that could do with improvement as far as Hum was concerned:

  • There were toiletries but no bars of soap in that lovely bathroom and Hum does like a bar of soap.

  • There were also no face flannels provided

  • The lights above the big bathroom mirror weren’t working and although Hum mentioned it, they weren’t fixed

Hum decided the room itself may have been designed by a man as there was a lovely dressing table and stool but no mirror on it or above it – instead there was a BIG TV. And there were no power points anywhere near any mirror that did exist in the room.

What with that and the lights not working in the bathroom mirror, I did worry about what Hum would look like – I mean she needs all the help she can get with make-up and hair styling! She found a solution however. She is very innovative and took the shaving mirror into the room and put it on the dressing table. Problem solved!

We went for our walk – the one on my map – that took us along the river to Dane Meadow. The rain had stopped, the sun was out and it was just lovely. Happy Hum with a walk by the water and happy me running through the meadow which was super tall!

Back at The Vicarage and we noted that there were no dog towels for us doggies to wipe our muddy paws on so we wouldn’t mess up our nice room. It really would be useful to have some by the door to save all the carpets. I mean I is only a little dog with little paws but imagine the mess a big dog would make!

Back in the room and Hum also noted there was no pen or paper in the room for me to start to write my Dog Blog review but fortunately she has some with her.

Hum decided to try the bathroom before dinner and soaked in a bubbly bath while I continued to enjoy my treats.

Something The Vicarage gets absolutely perfect is the food! Our dinner was simply A-Maz-Ing!!!! Hum chose for us to share as always. We started with Smoked Duck, followed by Lamb Rump, followed by cheese. Lots of local products of extremely high standard.

Hum said the Smoked Duck was one of the best starters she had had; the Lamb was beautifully cooked and the Cheese was at perfect ripeness. Hum isn’t a fan of Blue Cheese but I am – take note Hum, you need to be more sophisticated in your tastes 😉

After dinner, a quick walk and then it was back to the room for a good night’s sleep.

Hum didn’t want to get out of her big comfy bed but eventually she got up and tested the shower. The rainshower was good, the towels were lovely and fluffy sand Hum liked the coffee so a good start to the day.

However the hairdryer didn’t work and she had forgotten hers so we nearly had a ‘moment’ but housekeeping quickly brought a replacement. Phew!

Breakfast is served in the conservatory which is bright and airy and shabby chic décor-wise. Hum really liked it.

I was asked if I’d like a Doggy Breakfast which of course I said ‘yes’ to. That is a good touch – serving breakfast to us four-legs – means for once Hum didn’t have to share her food!

My breakfast was a delicious sausage and Hum enjoyed poached egg and bacon and tried one of the local sausages too. Excellent food all round. It was seriously yummy. Oh and the service was exemplary – we could not have asked for more.

SO dog pals – overall The Vicarage is an absolutely lovely and extremely dog friendly place to stay with fabulous staff; a great atmosphere and excellent food.

There are those minor little improvements that would make it a super high 5 but for now I give The Vicarage a big fat 4.

Zuki takes a Boat Trip on the River Thames

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Hi my doggie friends,

On Sunday Hum wanted to do something relaxing so we went on a dog friendly boat trip along the River Thames. The company running the trips was Turk Launches and the boat goes from Richmond to Kingston and then if you want you can change boats and go to Hampton Court. @TurkLaunches

We just went as far as Kingston and back which was a 2 hour round trip along the river. Hum loves a boat trip and we all found it most relaxing to simply sit and watch the world go by.

We saw people in rowing boats and in sailing boats and Hum got a bit of house envy because of all the beautiful homes right beside the water. We also went through a Lock which Hum found most exciting for some reason.

Our boat was the New Southern Belle one of a fleet of 5 boats that Turk Launches has. As well as the River trip we went on, they also do Jazz Cruises, Disco Cruises and you can hire the whole boat for an event if you want! How cool is that!

I think Hum wants to buy a boat now or live on a house-boat! Anyways another dog friendly day out I can highly recommend!

Zuki’s back in London at The Star & Anchor, Ealing

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Hello again Dog Pals,

I have got another dog friendly place for you to visit in the big city of London!

Hum was back in London for her little Granddaughter’s 4th birthday party but this time we didn’t have to stay in hotels; this time we stayed with Glenn Glenn who looked after me during the party last year and who is now a bit of an ‘item’ with Hum! I did some good match-making there I think ‘cos Glenn Glenn loves me – I think he only goes out wiv Hum to get to visit me 🙂

Hum and I travelled on Virgin Trains East Coast but I was very disappointed at first as they had run out of my favourite sausage rolls. Chef made it better by picking me bits of chicken out of the casserole and I topped that with egg from Hum’s sandwich so it turned out just fine 🙂 Thanks @Virgin_TrainsEC

To celebrate our one year anniversary of meeting, Glenn Glenn took me (oh and Hum) out for a meal to the dog friendly Star and Anchor @starandanchor.

The Star & Anchor is near where Glenn Glenn lives in Ealing on the Uxbridge Road. It is run by the lovely Ash who had a great table waiting for us and came over specially to meet me! He made sure I had everything I needed in terms of water and asked if there was anything else he could do for us.

The Star & Anchor was voted one of the best in Ealing by ‘Londonist’ readers and Hum said she could see why as the menu was excellent & there was good choice of bottled beers for Glenn Glenn.

Hum ordered whitebait for us all to share and it was super good. Hum said proper – not mass produced frozen stuff so we were all happy.

Next up Glenn Glenn ordered Steak and Hum and I had Confit Duck. Again super delicious and Hum stole lots of Glenn Glenn’s fries as she reckoned they were the best skinny fries ever!

The meal was delicious and the atmosphere really good. Highly recommended! If you visit, Ash did take some of my business cards so make sure you pick one up!

Zuki’s Birthday Paw-ty

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Hi dog pals,

Sorry to take so long to tell you about this but I has been a really busy little dog recently – had to sort my annual accounts and such-like.

Anyways, Hum told me I simply MUST tell you all about my 3rd Birthday as I had a proper ‘Paw-ty’!

A couple of days before my birthday (June 4th in case you want to celebrate with me next year), a HUGHMONGOS box arrived at our house which Hum took into her office and tried to hide.

It was from Four Legged Fancies www.fourleggedfancies.co.uk and contained everything you would need to create a Dog Paw-ty!

I sent out invites to my friends Gracie and Mr Rolo and when the day arrived got most excited as Hum brought the BIG box into the conservatory and let me see what was in it!

Well my dear dog pals, it was A-Maz-Ing! In the box were balloons with paw prints on; a ginormous cake; plates with dog pictures on; paw-ty bags to give out at the end AND a Pass The Paw-cel!!!

There was also apparently a place to download music for the paw-ty featuring such appropriate songs as ‘Who Let the Dogs Out’ and ‘How Much Is That Doggy in the Window’!!!

Hum was extremely pleased with the contents of the BIG box and we set to work sorting the balloons and arranging everything ready for my friends to arrive.

We had a wonderful time! Hum and Diana (Gracie and Mr Rolo’s Hum) had to explain how to play Pass the Paw-cel as we had never played that before. But it turned out to be a great game as every time the music stopped, one of us was able to open the paw-cel and got a toy or a treat!!! And very nice toys they were too! Mr Rolo got a rope toy; Gracie and ball and thrower and I got a combination of rope and ball!

After our game, whilst singing Happy Birthday, Hum brought out my cake with lots of candles on it for me to try to blow out – not easy for a little dog so everyone helped me.

The cake was delicious! Chicken flavour with Sausages sticking out the top. We all really enjoyed it and I think Mr Rolo might have eaten the whole thing had he been allowed!!

After a play with our toys in the garden, and the humans having a good old chin wag over a glass of wine, it was time for my friends to go home.

And not only did they get their toy from the Paw-cel, they also had another small toy and even more yummy treats in their Paw-ty Bag to go home with.

SO big thanks to Victoria at Four Legged Fancies – we had a truly fabulous time. I can defo recommend your Humans to sort you a Paw-ty for your next birthday.

Bring Your Dog To Work Day 2017

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Hi Dog Pals,

I have got something REALLY special to tell you about!

June 23rd is !!! That means that all you lovely four-legged pals of mine can do what I do and go to work with your Humans!

I is very lucky as my Human Mum (Hum) works from home so every day is a Bring Your Dog to Work Day for us! And I has to be at Hum’s work ‘cos I has to help her with all the hotel reviews; pub reviews and now product reviews not to mention keeping up with my Social Media.

But now this special day lets you take part and it is really special as it is all for charities that help dogs and other animals not so well off as some of us.

So what is Bring Your Dog To Work Day?

Bring Your Dog To Work Day (as seen on ITV’s This Morning, the Daily Mirror and Waitrose Weekend as well as many other UK national publications) is an annual nationwide event that raises money for charities dedicated to making a difference to the welfare of dogs. On Friday 23rd June 2017, businesses from across the UK will welcome their dog loving employees into the workplace, along with their loyal four-legged companions, all in the name of charity. It’s the fourth national event of its kind and is organised by HOWND®.

Even if you already take your dog to work, you, your businesses or any dog-loving employee can become an official sponsor by making a donation online or by text and uploading your company logo (businesses) or pooch selfie (individuals), on our website. All proceeds this year go to dog rescue charity All Dogs Matter, a charity that rehomes hundreds of dogs every year in London and Norfolk and Animals Asia, a charity dedicated to improving the lives of dogs, cats and bears in China and Vietnam.

As well as raising funds for a great cause, Bring Your Dog to Work Day could have some positive benefits for employee productivity and wellbeing. Above all, the day promises to be a lot of fun for all those involved. It’s time to give your dog a job!

Many scientific studies have concluded that the presence of pets can substantially reduce a person’s stress level in the workplace. Increased job satisfaction, team co-operation and morale have all been reported in employees that spend the workday with their pets. Since 2014, the year we established Bring Your Dog To Work Day, we have witnessed a growing number of businesses across the UK that allow dogs in the workplace.

So in addition to raising funds, Bring Your Dog To Work Day is likely to boost the productivity and happiness of the employees within your company. And it means hundreds if not thousands of pets around the UK can now go to work alongside their humans!

#BringYourDogToWorkDay trended on twitter in 2015 and 2016.
Let’s make it happen again!

Read Zuki’s review to Win a Bissell SpotClean Cordless!

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Hi dog pals,

Previously I told you about the Bissell Spotclean Pro but now I have tested the Bissell SpotClean Cordless AND am giving your Humans the chance to win one of these fab machines! @BISSELL_UK, BISSELL

The Bissell SpotClean Cordless does pretty much the same job as the Bissell SpotClean Pro BUT the advantage for your Human-folk is that it is Cordless so easily transportable. It is also extremely compact and light to carry.

This makes it ideal for your Humans to take on your travels. And that is exactly what Hum decided to do!

Yeah!!! We went on our travels to Hum’s caravan at the seaside and I loves the caravan and I loves the seaside!!

Only problem is dog friends – I often bring mud and sand into the caravan and so that is where the Bissell SpotClean Cordless comes in extremely handy ‘cos the Bissell SpotClean Cordless deep cleans small areas of carpet or upholstery where there are dirty marks or stains!

For your Human-folk, here are the details of the machine:

  • Remove spots & stain anywhere: Strong spray and powerful suction removes stains from stairs, upholstery, car interiors and more

  • Permanent Stain Removal: Permanently removes tough stains with the help of BISSELL Oxygen Boost Formula

  • Easy Storage: Lightweight, compact design allows for storage in small spaces

  • Portable Spot & Stain Cleaner for carpets and Upholstery

  • Lithium-Ion Powered: with 20min run time

The Bissell SpotClean Cordless works by you spraying a mix of water and cleaning fluid on the stain and then suctioning up the dirt with one of the cleaning tools.

I supervised while Glenn did the cleaning of the sofa and pointed out any bits he missed.

So did it work? Well dog friends take a look at the images! Totally A-Maz-Ing result Hum said! She was most impressed.

So much so that she got Glenn to take it to the car and clean the car seats while he was at it! And with its 20 minute run time he had plenty of time!

The verdict is that the Bissell SpotClean Cordless is the ideal cleaner for the home or your travels and is extremely portable and practical and delivers great results.

So get your Humans to follow the Link and enter the competition to win one – you will never hear them complain about your muddy paws again as it is so easy to clean with the Bissell SpotClean Cordless:

Zuki reviews Petcube Play – interactive pet camera

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Hi again Dog Pals,

So has I somefink great to tell yous all about!!! I is SO excited about the new Petcube Play @Petcube product Hum got sent for me to review!!!! Sorry – so excited my spelling and grammar has gone haywire!!!

But dog friends Petcube Play is SO super COOL!!!!!

Petcube Play is an indoor home pet camera that lets your humans check in wiv you when you are home alone. Apparently the human uses their smartphone and downloads an app and then they can see us on their phone wherever they are!

Not only can your human see you BUT they can also talk to you! And Play with you too!

Hum set up the Petcube Play and I checked it out. She was not even in the house pet pals and yet she spoke to me!! Yes indeed!! I could hear her talking to me!

She told me not to sit right up at the camera as all she could see was my bottom. Then she called me and I posed better although I think she could only see my tummy that time. Finally I got the idea and sat and had a chat wiv her!

The next time she was out, I heard her and brought her my duck toy to play with but forgot it is her voice only – she is not there in person and the camera can’t play wiv ducky so I just chewed ducky instead of playing chase.

You can however play chase with the Petcube Play in another way! There is red dot to play wiv. Red dot moves around the room and you can follow it and chase it.

I wasn’t sure about red dot but apparently cats loves them.

Please find below the technical spec and the requirements for your Humans to really understand how many features Petcube Play has:

Petcube Play features:
• 138° wide angle view
• 1080p HD video
• 3R class laser built-in laser toy
• 2-way audio
• Night vision
• 3x digital zoom
• Sound and motion alerts

Petcube Play requires:
• Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, 2.4GHz
• Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE)
• iOS 8.4 and higher or Android 4.3 and higher
• Wi-Fi internet connection
• Min 1 Mbps Upload speed on the Petcube (recommended 2Mbps)
• Min 1 Mbps Download speed on the mobile device (recommended 2Mbps)

SO dog pals wiv Play Cube you can hear & talk to your humans; play wiv your toys or red dot AND be seen at night and even though you can’t get cuddles at least you know the human folks is still alive and coming home to you 🙂 Phew – what a relief – I mean what would happen if we couldn’t keep tabs on them and they didn’t come home!

Hum and I both LOVE our Petcube, SO go get your humans to get a PetCube play and make sure they keep in touch throughout the day.

PS Emma Watson has one for her pet – fink she is famous and all.

Zuki reviews the Bissell SpotClean Pro™

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Hello again dog friends,

Today I is going to tell you and your humans about the Bissell SpotClean Pro™ machine, @BISSELLclean, BISSELL

Hum was getting very annoyed about the dirty marks on the carpet. When the boys were home for Easter I had played in the garden with them and had a bit of a mad half hour splashing in the stream and jumping on the raised beds so I’m afraid there were quite a few muddy marks on the carpet!

Poor old Hum was struggling to get it properly clean. She thought she was going to have to call on the carpet cleaner man but then we got sent the Bissell SpotClean Pro™ to test.

The Bissell SpotClean Pro™ deep cleans small areas of carpet or upholstery where there are dirty marks or stains.

For your Human-folk, here are the details of the machine:

  • Remove stains like a pro: This professional-style spot cleaner uses water, formula and powerful suction to clean and protect soft surfaces

  • Clean anywhere, anytime: Spray, scrub and lift spots and stains from carpets, rugs, upholstery, stairs, auto interiors and more

  • Power through the mess: Remove spots, spills and stains with superior suction and large, removable water tanks

  • Comes with a sample size bottle of Wash and Protect Professional

  • Includes a large stain & upholstery and a tough stain tool

So did it work? Well dog pals I supervised while Hum did the spray bit and Glenn did the suction bit and well the results were extremely impressive.

No more muddy marks and a happy Hum.

Four and a half paw print rating for the Bissell SpotClean Pro™ – Hum is hoping to try the Cordless version next as it will be convenient for the stairs and car!

Zuki tests the Whalek Pet Cooling Pad

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Hi again dog pals,

I has got another product to tell you and your human folk about.

Today I was testing out the Whalek Pet Cooling Pad. Had to wait for a sunny day to get best use out of it and as soon as the sun came out this morning Hum got the Cooling Pad out for me to try out.

The Whalek Pet Cooling Pad is very clever indeed. It doesn’t need water, freezing or electricity to activate. All you has to do is sit or lie on it and it works!!!!

This is because it contains a non-toxic cooling gel that activates as soon as pressure is applied so when I lay down on it, it started to cool my little belly straight away!!! Amazing!!!

Hum thought it was brilliant as she likes to sit in the conservatory when it is sunny and I like to be with her but it gets SO hot in there I often have to go back into the lounge to cool down.

Not anymore! I can now lie on my Whalek Pet Cooling Pad and be cool and comfortable 🙂

Hum also thought it would be good in the car on hot days so I tried it out and indeed I think it would be most useful especially on long journeys when it is hot and sunny.

Your humans may want to know more of the practical stuff so here we go:

The Whalek Pet Cooling Pad is tough, durable and puncture-resistant (although I wouldn’t bite it if I was you)

It is made from sturdy nylon and filled with non-toxic cooling gel

It can keep us pets cool of up to 8 hours at a time

It is easy to wipe clean with a wet cloth

It folds so easy to transport or use in different places

It really is a ‘cool’ product to keep us cool!

Zuki taste tests Eden Holistic Pet Foods

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Hey dog pals,

Have I got some exciting news for you! I is becoming a Brand Ambassador – testing products and reviewing so you and your humans can find great dog friendly products.

First review to bring you is for Eden Holistic Pet Foods @EdenPetFoods

Now Hum has struggled to find me any dog food that I like. See with me visiting hotels & pubs and doing my Dog Blog reviews of them, I has gotten used to sharing Hum’s food and I must say I am a bit partial to steak, duck, venison, grouse etc. not to mention eggs for breakfast.

SO why would I bother with dog food when Hum gives me all this and usually cooks for me too….

However, Hum said she felt I needed SOME dog food to supplement my usual diet to ensure I was getting all the right vitamins and suchlike. Think that is mainly ‘cos I won’t eat the veg she tries to sneak into my dinner….

SO the lovely folks at Eden Holistic Pet Food got in touch with Hum and offered us some of their dog food to see if I might like it.

Now dog pals, I has tried LOTS of different brands of dog food in the past – Hum does keep trying – but I had not found one that I could say I really liked and so Hum had always had to take it to the dog rescue place when I wouldn’t eat it.

HOWEVER, Eden Holistic Pet Foods has proved an exception!!! I LOVE it!!! I got to try the Original Cuisine and the Fish Cuisine and I can tell you I ate it all up; cleaned my plate and asked for seconds. You should have seen how happy Hum was!!!

So a bit about the products now for your human-folk. Eden Holistic Pets Foods are a family owned company. The owner was a nutritionist and has tried to get as close to us dog folks’ Ancestral Diet as possible.

This means all the food is high quality British produce and includes a variety of meats, organic minerals and vitamins, a range of fruit, vegetables and botanicals.

The Original Cuisine has 80% Chicken, Salmon, Duck & Egg/20% Fruit & Vegetables.

The Fish Cuisine (my favourite) has 80% Salmon, Herring & Trout/20% Fruit & Vegetables.

SO if you is a fussy eater like I is, or if you just want to try something super yummy delicious and also healthy, get your Humans to purchase some Eden Holistic Pet Food and enjoy!!!
