Newstead Abbey, Nottinghamshire

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Hi dog pals,

At the weekend we visited a place called Newstead Abbey. Newstead Abbey isn’t far from where we live and Human Mum (Hum) told me she often used to take the boys there when they were little.

It was great to see all the places they used to enjoy exploring. We explored the Japanese Garden where we jumped across stepping stones; crossed little bridges and generally had fun. Then we found the formal garden which was like a maze to me with all its little hedges.

There was a lake with geese and we met a lovely lady with Pip the dog. She lives in a great house overlooking the lake with battlements and everything. Very cool! Lucky Pip!

There were little passageways and waterfalls and bridges and so many different parts of the garden to explore. We spent about 2 hours with Hum reminiscing about the boys playing Billy Goats Gruff, Hide and Seek and having an Easter Egg Hunt. You can have lots of fun here whether you are a dog or a human.

Newstead Abbey is the ancestral home of the poet Lord Byron and he was a real dog lover. In fact when his dog, Boatswain died, he wrote a poem and had it inscribed on a monument at Boatswain’s tomb! Here it is – why don’t you get your humans to take you for a visit to Newstead Abbey and see it for yourselves?

Epitaph to A Dog

Near this Spot
are deposited the Remains of one
who possessed Beauty without Vanity,
Strength without Insolence,
Courage without Ferosity,
and all the virtues of Man without his Vices.
This praise, which would be unmeaning Flattery
if inscribed over human Ashes,
is but a just tribute to the Memory of
BOATSWAIN, a DOG,
who was born in Newfoundland May 1803
and died at Newstead Nov. 18, 1808.

4 paw print rating – only downside having to be on lead all the time.

Sleepover in Nottingham

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Hi my doggie friends,

Had a sleepover with Hum’s friend Debbie’s two Bichons, Hugo and Alfie.

Hum (human Mum) had gone to London – she had an award to present at some event and stayed in a non-dog-friendly hotel! How dare she! Naughty Hum!

Anyway I got to meet Hugo and Alfie and had an encounter with Bella the cat. she was cool about it and I didn’t chase her.

I did play chase with Hugo and Alfie but I think Alfie was a bit scared of me. Hugo was more confident and so he took me for a stoll round the garden and we played boxing and tug of war with his squirrel toy.

Nicole and Debbie took us all for a walk and although tired out couldn’t get us to sit and watch the Guide Dog programme on TV. Hum says I can watch it on catch-up whatever that is so will update you when I have seen it.

Sleepovers are fun but I was still pleased to be home with Hum last night.

Me and My Guide Dog

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Hi everyone,

Looking forward to watching a show on ITV this evening at 8.00 p.m.

Me and My Guide Dog follows a litter of puppies from birth, through training and then to placement (if they are successful).

The pupils of West Bridgford School, Nottingham where my late husband worked have recently raised money to sponsor a Guide Dog for the Blind. They voted to have him named him Winston in memory of my husband (he was often called Winston as an abbreviation of Winstanley).

I will be absolutely thrilled to watch the process knowing that Winston will be going through this later in the year.

Dogalogue who sell goods in support of Guide Dogs for the Blind, have created a commemorative Tea Towel featuring puppies from tonight’s show.

If you want to support this worthy cause please follow the link below and use Code D15G006 for a 10% discount.

http://www.awin1.com/awclick.php?mid=6059&id=234909

Enjoy the show and I will update you about Winston when I meet him in September!

Rufford Country Park and Rose Cottage

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Hi dog friends,

At the weekend Hum (human Mum) took me to a new place for a walk. We went to Rufford Country Park where she used to take the boys when they were little and where apparently her Mum loves to visit because of the tea rooms and craft shop.

We stuck to the lake walk which was lovely. First of all we went past the old Abbey and across the gardens and then round the lake. I met lots of other dogs including my first meeting with another Poochon! She was called Dora and she was ever so sweet or as Hum said A-Dora-ble. She is pretty bad at jokes – sorry.

Hum showed me where there is a Ford and all the children watch the cars splash through. The little people squealed with delight if there was a big splash. They also seemed to like feeding the ducks but I would have preferred to be able to chase them! The ducks that is not the little people 😉

You have to be on a lead at Rufford Country Park but it can be a long lead and so you can still explore. Very pleasant morning out.

After our walk we went over the road to The Rose Cottage pub where we were treated extremely well – had a lovely table in the restaurant! I checked out the menu while front of house brought me some water and found Caesar Salad. I know Hum likes the healthy salad stuff and I love the chicken so this was a good choice.

Delicious with excellent dog friendly service. Make sure if your humans take you for a walk to Rufford that you all go to Rose Cottage for lunch!

My Birthday!

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]So my dear Doggy Friends,

Yesterday was my Birthday and I promised I would share some photos.

I had a lovely day just doing what I really enjoyed. So Hum took me to Burnt Stump and I had lots of fun with my friends – Jacks, Harry, Grace and of course my favourite Zeus – I love him – he lets me chase him endlessly and that is just super fun!

Then we got to the fun part. Hum had ordered me a cake from http://www.purrfectpawtisserie.co.uk/ – how good was that! it is peanut butter and carob and dog chocolate icing! SUPER – well my fav is the icing really 😉

Hum also got me a new puppy toy. When I got here she had a puppy toy for me but I didn’t want to share my bed with it and I liked just playing with it. Hum nicknamed it ‘Kill Puppy’ as she reckoned I killed it on a daily basis (would I?) mmm

Anyway 1st puppy toy isn’t looking so well so I have a new one – how sweet. Nearly got its nose off tonight but will need more effort 😉

Will keep you updated on new puppy’s progress but do suggest you show your humans the photos of my wonderful cake!

Moonpig card was delicious also – not sure Hum meant me to eat it 😦

BNI Meeting, West Bridgford, Nottingham

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Hi all my followers,

Well I am a busy girl these days! Yesterday, 3rd June, I was invited by the lovely Haidee Watson (that is her in the photo with Hum) from Hum’s accountants, http://www.adcockfinancial.co.uk to a BNI meeting in Nottingham.

BNI is a Business Networking Referral Organisation and I was invited to attend so Hum (human Mum) could tell everyone about Have Dog Can Travel and meet other local business people who support one another.

We were made very welcome at the venue, The Poppy and Pint in West Bridgford and it was a great meeting (I was super well behaved) where we met some really lovely people:

The wonderful Cathy Higgins from Oehlers photography who took the photos posted on here. I hope she can do some shots of me for my modelling agency website! Hum’s photography just doesn’t do me justice!

The lovely Ramsey Pigott from Your Computer Department who kept Hum up to speed with the meeting and might just be able to sort her IT (not an easy task!)

The very sweet Hannah Bullock from Pulse Customised Clothing who I want Hum to keep in touch with so that when business takes off we can get my doggie pals special HDCT Blankies printed to take to our listed hotels!

The absolutely brilliant Shamshad Walker from Shamshad Walker marketing who is going to help me with my Social Media management and dealing with Google (all so new to a dog like me)!

Anyway it was great and we may well visit again to update everyone. In the meantime we will be visiting Shamshad soon and always pop in to say ‘hello’ to Haidee when in the village.

Tired now – another busy day today – it is my birthday! will share photos from that with you tomorrow!

Zuki

The Red Lion, Cromer

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Hi dog pals,

How does Hum (Human Mum) do it? She can just find the best places ever to stay! On Sunday night we checked into the Red Lion in Cromer in Norfolk and it was a-maz-ing!

Hum had said she initially had hoped for a sea view room but there weren’t any available that night however, when we saw Room 5 (the old Billiard Room) we were like ‘who needs a sea view when you have a ginormous bath tub in your even more ginormous room facing the TV!!!’

Hum was ecstatic and danced around taking photos of the size of the room; the tub; the tea and coffee tray (it had one of those cafetiere things on it that she gets so excited about) and then she noticed the bit we came to find out about – how dog friendly it was.

Well I can tell you from the time we entered reception the staff were lovely and in this amazing room there was a lovely bed and blanket just for me beside the fireplace and a dog bowl with 3 sausage treats (yum) and a lovely little note to welcome me. Now that is what I call good service!

We went for a walk on the beach – you have to go to the end of the promenade at this time of year to be let off lead but it isn’t far and it is a lovely beach to explore.

Before dinner, Hum filled her big tub with bubbles and watched TV murmuring over and over again ‘mmm this is just perfect’ while I got down to business – getting my blankies out to test the rest of the furniture. I can tell you it all lived up to expectation – super comfy huge bed for Hum and a lovely sofa and chairs.

Hum sat wrapped in the big fluffy robe provided and watched the end of some TV show and then we finally managed to get sorted and ready for dinner.

Food was excellent – I particularly liked the hake – really delicious and perfectly cooked. And Hum got her sea view during dinner so all good!

We had an excellent night’s sleep in our comfy beds and next morning were welcomed to breakfast by everyone – they are all so friendly. I got a bowl of water and another bowl to have some of the breakfast in – delicious again. Yummy sausage and egg.

We didn’t really want to leave. Hum was in love with the room and said all the little touches made it so special. She also said that it was staggeringly good value at £80 per night and only £7.50 for me.

So definitely would advise you to get your humans to go to Cromer and stay at The Red Lion.

BrewDog, Nottingham

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Hi my doggie friends,

This was when we went to BrewDog, Nottingham. We were staying at Hart’s Hotel and after a nice walk along the canal, Hum decided we should head to BrewDog for a bite to eat.

All BrewDog bars are dog friendly – its in the name really – they do a good beer (brew) and they love dogs! There is even a real live BrewDog called Simoe apparently. I had hoped he might be in residence so I could meet him but Hum thinks he is based up in Scotland so I told her I want to go there sometime!

Hum isn’t a great beer drinker but found that they have a huge range of drinks – something for everyone she said – and indeed for dogs too!

I was brought a huge bowl of water before Hum had even finished ordering at the bar so BrewDog managed to live up to its dog friendly reputation from the get go.

The customers at BrewDog were also super friendly and I got lots of cuddles and fussing from a University Scuba Team who were in celebrating something.

When the food arrived it was a-maz-ing! The table was low enough for me to see the lovely big platter of meat and cheese. I LOVE meat and I LOVE cheese! So Hum and I shared a delicious meal together before retiring to the hotel for the night.

Can definitely recommend BrewDog bars – just fab for when you are staying in a city!

Ye Olde Bridge Inn, Oxton

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Hi my doggie friends,

Yesterday we went to Ye Olde Bridge Inn, Oxton for a bite to eat.

It has recently been refurbished and looks very classy and I noticed several dog ornaments on shelves and the fireplace which was a good sign to start off with!

Dogs are made welcome in the bar area where there is a real fire for cold days and lots of comfy looking chairs.

Hum ordered the food and I was brought a bowl of water. I found a straw on the ground and tried to use it in the water bowl but maybe I shouldn’t have chewed it first. Anyway I have learnt it is not easy for dogs to drink with straws – just letting my other doggy pals know this in case they think it worth a try. Oh and I wouldn’t try eating coal either; just makes your fur all black and dusty.

I did have to find something to do as the only downside of Ye Olde Bridge Inn was the amount of time it took for the food to arrive. Hum kept saying ‘don’t know how it can take so long after all it is only a sandwich’ but when it arrived we could see it was not ONLY a sandwich; it was a sandwich worth waiting for!

The ‘sandwich’ was filled with succulent rotisserie chicken really moist and tasty! They have a rotisserie here as well as a proper imported pizza oven – how cool is that! Hum ate the crunchy stuff – coleslaw I think it was called. There was also a cute little basket of home-made chunky chips and salad. Becoming good at food reviews now I think.

Can’t give it full 5 paw prints because of the wait but would come back again for sure and can definitely recommend the chicken!

Hardwick Inn

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Hi again dog friends,

After our time in the Park at Hardwick Hall, Hum took me to the Hardwick Inn for a snack.

As dogs, we have a special door to go through – to the right of the main entrance; this leads to 2 rather lovely cosy rooms where we are welcome. They have water bowls either side of the fireplace and it must be great in the winter to lounge by the fire.

We only had a snack – Hum chose the chefs homemade pate which was yummy but there were lots of people eating huge plates of Sunday Carvery roast dinner. Have told Hum that is what we will be having next time we visit. The Hardwick Inn specialises in good quality home cooked food so we will definitely be back. I just LOVE roast dinner!
