Southwold, Suffolk

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Hi again dog pals,

On day two of our Suffolk adventure, Human Mum (Hum) said she wanted to go to a place called Southwold.
She remembered it as a lovely pretty seaside town – very smart and quintessentially English, she said. Her late husband had taken her there and she reminisced about the pretty beach huts, their lovely pier with shops selling all the sort of arty stuff hum likes and the Adnam’s brewery that her hubby enjoyed.
Well maybe it is super-duper for human-folk but I found it not quite so great for us four-legged people.
Firstly there are restrictions on the main beach from May to September so we couldn’t get to see the colourful beach huts or play on the beach.
Then we were told the Lord Nelson pub was dog friendly BUT when Hum asked if I could have my water bowl filled it was treated as a most bizarre request and we were told there were water bowls outside the door for dogs. I mean I even take my own little bowl with me ‘cos I don’t like drinking communal water! I know that is fussy but I know I am not alone in this.
Maybe for once Hum just hadn’t done her research as well as usual as we met a couple later at the Bell Inn in Walberswick who said there was a dog friendly little bit of beach and other places including the Swan Hotel were very dog friendly hut Hey – we went to Walberswick instead and that was fab!
Will tell you the joys of Walberswick later!

The Mill Inn, Aldeburgh, Suffolk

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Hi my dog pals,

Busy, busy sea-side town is Aldeburgh. Took ForEvA to get parked!! Busy, busy street too!!! Really difficult for a little dog like me to navigate! Anyways we saw the dog friendly White Hart – it was REALLY tiny on the street beside the chip shop.

But there were SO many people queuing for fish and chips and NO seating left in or out even though Hum said the Pizza looked good, so we walked on and checked out our next dog friendly venue – the Cross Keys.

The Cross Keys is indeed a very nice, cosy pub overlooking the beach/promenade BUT again a BIG queue at the bar and Hum couldn’t decide what she fancied from the menu.

Off again we went! I was almost getting fed up of this expedition BUT we found The Mill Inn – definitely the best choice of all!!! NO QUEUE (and there should have been ‘cos this is a LOVERLY place)!

Best welcome of all the pubs so far! I was brought water straight away which is always a good sign. Light and airy but with lots of little spaces to sit and eat/drink and FANTASTIC food!!! At what Hum said was a great price! What’s not to love she said! We had Brie in Breadcrumbs and it was deliche! Well done Hum!!!

Had to stay on promenade on way back to car as there are restrictions on the beach and the only downside of the day was that a nasty sea gull big bird thingy tried to attack me (woh that was scary – it squawked and circled and stuff!) but overall worth taking your humans here if only for The Mill Inn.

Happy Days Retro Vacations, Suffolk

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Hi my doggie friends,

So we have been staying at Happy Days Retro Vacations and I must say it totally exceeded Human Mum (Hum’s) expectations. Think she likes her touches of luxury – she doesn’t ‘do’ camping apparently….something to do with bad experiences as a Girl Guide….

Right from the get go we were made to feel really welcome – there is a lovely little retro-styled reception where we met Kevin who really helped us settle in and introduced us to Betsy our Airstream for the weekend.

Betsy is defo the best Airstream on the site – both Hum and I LOVED the bright red settees and I loved the fact that the funky table turned into a BIG bed for me to spread out on!

If other people (families with children) are here you have got to be on lead on the actual campsite but there is a MASSIVE garden you can play in off lead so we had lots of time playing ball and exploring there.

Jenny and Kevin are just lovely and Hum said they were more than helpful with maps and advice and stuff to keep us happy. Hum also said the whole place had been created with love and real attention to detail. She raved about all the little retro touches – the lampshade; tablecloth; oven glove; crockery; even the shower curtains in the shower block! Said it was important for your humans that I mention this as they appreciate that sort of thing.

There is only Betsy to stay in as a dog just now (we think it is the best Airstream on site though – did I mention that before..) BUT they are planning another dog friendly Airstream soon so I will keep you posted.

Hum thought it was all really well equipped – oven and hob inside; fridge/freezer; lots of utensils; tea, coffee etc. (very important to Hum – she likes her coffee first thing in the morning). Hum did some cooking inside but mainly barbequed (when we weren’t eating out in pubs to do reviews). It was nice to sit outside and we went to visit our neighbours and they toasted marshmallows over a fire pit!

BTW Hum says I also have to let you know that the shower block was modern and clean with retro touches and lovely hot showers. This is no ordinary campsite – very glam!

SO this really is a place I can recommend you get your Humans to take you. Hum LOVED it and I think she has been converted – still not a camper but defo a ‘glamper’ now!

A definite 5 paw prints 🙂

Sainsbury’s Cats versus Dogs Prize Draw

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Hi my doggy friends,

Not to do with travel but Hum (Human Mum) and I were contacted by a very nice lady called Marta.

Marta deals with the Sainsbury’s Bank Money Matters Blog and as a fellow blogger she got in touch ‘cos she had seen my fabulous blog entries!

How cool is that to get such recognition!

Anyway Sainsbury’s Bank Money Matters have got a Prize Draw at the moment called Cats Versus Dogs.

All you got to do is vote to settle the argument once and for all as to whether cats or dogs are best.

Now my doggy pals I think you know what the right answer to that argument is but to ensure we keep in the lead (we are in the lead just now), we need to take action! We need to get our Humans to vote for DOGS! That’s right – VOTE FOR DOGS NOW!!!!

Oh and it is a Prize Draw – there is a chance for the Humans to win £250 in Sainsbury’s vouchers so they can get us a Humongous amount of treats and toys!!!!

You can vote here: http://www.sainsburysbank.co.uk/money-matters/cats-versus-dogs-prize-draw.shtml

And just check me out in this picture getting ready to multiple click the mouse thingy on the laptop Hum got me recently so I could work better!

Oh and it is worth checking things call ‘links’ on Marta’s page as there are lots of tips for looking after dogs your Humans might like to read :-)

Devonshire Arms, Pilsley, Derbyshire

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Hi my four-legged friends,

After our lovely walk in the grounds of Chatsworth Estate, Hum took me to the Devonshire Arms at Pilsley.

There are 5 hotels owned by Chatsworth Estate and 4 of them are dog friendly – Devonshire Arms, Beeley; Devonshire Arms, Bolton Abbey; Devonshire Fell, Skipton and The Devonshire Arms, Pilsley.

As it was very close to the Chatsworth Estate, we went to Pilsley and I must say it was rather lovely.

Jeanette was extremely welcoming and took us to see one of the dog friendly rooms. I had real hair envy as Jeanette’s hair was just amazing and I had all mine cut recently.

Anyway I digress – the rooms that are dog friendly are newly decorated Four Poster bedrooms and we were shown one called Ballcross. Hum was most impressed with the décor (lots of oooing and aaahing) and said the bathroom was stunning (I don’t really notice the bathrooms as I don’t use them). The bed was pretty amazing however – so tall that there were little steps even for the Humans to get up! Maybe that was more to stop us lovely doggy friends getting onto the bed?

Anyway there was a lovely chair at the end of the bed and a nice blanket and Jeanette let me sit on the chair for my photo and held me for another.

As a dog, you get stuff provided at Devonshire Arms Bolton Abbey but not at Devonshire Arms, Pilsley which is a shame – I rather fancied a locally made dog treat if such things exist. So if you stay here you need to bring all your own kit – bed; blankie; bowl etc.

Later we went into the bar for some food. Dogs are allowed in the bar and you are advised to book and you must be well behaved (I am of course as I am used to dining out).

Although I wasn’t provided with water in the bar area, there was a big dog bowl of water at the entrance to have a drink after your walk. Food-wise, Hum decided for a change this time (there are only so many Chicken Caesar salads I can comment on) and ordered Salmon which was delicious. Can’t comment on the veg but Hum ate most of it and seemed happy enough.

So definitely worth a visit but do be on your best behaviour and if staying bring your travel kit. Hum says we can stay at Devonshire Arms, Bolton some time and they provide lots of stuff so when we do I will tell you all about it!

Chatsworth Estate

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Hello again dog friends,

This weekend our walk was in Chatsworth Park. Hum (Human Mum) decided we could go there and then also view one of the Dog Friendly establishments owned by the estate.

So off we set into Derbyshire and the Peak District with Hum muttering about how much she hates driving though a place called Chesterfield.

Chatsworth is an absolutely, totally massive house (Hum says it is a Stately Home) and the park is HUGE! We stopped up by the house and walked down a path and over a bridge so Hum could see the house in all its glory and take photos. She kept saying ‘look at that view, isn’t it lovely’ but I was more interested in the fact that there were lots of those woolly sheep things wandering around.

I so wanted to play with them but had to be kept on my lead and was told they wouldn’t want to play with me. Certainly one did look very grumpy so maybe Hum had a point!

Fortunately I met two lovely dogs – Spaniels called Ruby and Poppy so we played together and their human was local to the area so showed us a nice walk to a village on the Estate called Edensor.

There was so much more we could have done and next time Hum says she wants to explore the Chatsworth House gardens as they have lots of water features and stuff (Hum loves a water feature).

Apparently there are woods, reservoirs, waterfalls, ponds as well as the more formal gardens with a maze and a sensory garden. That should all be really fun to explore next time!

We will possibly come back when Hum’s Mum is over as she loves a stately home and so we can all enjoy.

As it was this time we had to leave in time for some food and a viewing of the accommodation at the dog friendly Devonshire Arms in Pilsley which I will tell you about in another Blog entry.

My rating is 4 paw prints for Chatsworth – lots to explore but nowhere to be off lead.

Pet Travel Tips 1

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Hi Doggie Friends,

Over the next while you must keep checking in to my Dog Blog as Hum (Human Mum) and I will be giving you travel tips for all your exciting holiday destinations that you have found on Have Dog Can Travel to go to with your humans.

Hum was most excited to find that you can travel with your human on Virgin Trains and so has booked us a trip for late July when we will go to London together! How cool is that! And she was in good enough time to get a really good price ‘on-line’ so we are even going 1st class! SO excited!

If your Humans don’t want to stay in the UK and have got you a Dog Passport it seems you can go to different countries and go on an airplane which sounds really rather amazing. BUT if you think you would be sitting up in 1st class all comfy on the plane like the photo at the top of this blog then I think you would be most disappointed – the situation is more like the photo on the side 😦

A nice lady called Maria from the Heathrow Airport Guide sent Hum a link to travelling with pets on the airplane.

http://www.heathrow-airport-guide.co.uk/pet-travel.html#Eligibility

Check out this link and then get your Humans to really think about whether you should try plane travel or whether they might be better to take you to one of our nice recommended places here in the UK.

If your Humans do want to take you abroad on the plane then do please get them to check the link Maria sent so it is as stress-free as possible.

I will do a review of the train travel when back from London. Also hope to review the Tube (underground trains apparently).

Later in the year Hum says we might try a ferry crossing so lots to look forward to. Keep checking!

Castle Inn, Bakewell

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Hi Doggie peeps,

My name is Eddy and Zuki’s Human Mum (Hum) met mine when she came in to buy Zuki a laptop so Zuki could do her blog better.

As my Hum works in a computer shop I have access to lots of new and latest technology gadgety things and so have no probs knocking out a review for the Zukester. I think she is SO cool! Great to be on her website and all. Thanks Zuki!

Anyway, my Hum told Zuki’s about a place we visited recently – the Castle Inn at a place called Bakewell (they make tarts in Bakewell apparently but I didn’t get offered one). The Castle Inn was pretty cool though so thought I would jot down my thoughts for you.

I was very pleased with the Castle Inn in Bakewell! They have a very nice area for humans to eat their food whilst us doggie kind had our own area to eat! They have very nice staff and an outdoor area to play and get some fresh air.

The nice kind lady brought us a yummy treat for choosing such a great establishment. Even my owner enjoyed the food and service! A must to visit after a nice walk around the area!

So get yourselves off to the Bakewell and the Castle Inn and maybe you can discover what a Bakewell tart is and let me know.

Eddie.

Kings Mill Reservoir

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Hi dog friends,

Went for a walk round Kings Mill Reservoir at the weekend. Hum (human Mum) likes it there although she gets a bit sad as you can see the hospital where her husband stayed when he was really, really ill most of the way round the lake.

Still she likes the walk and I must say I enjoyed it thoroughly.

It is a nature reserve and I am now learning my wildlife. Ducks are swimming bird things who are scared of me; geese are bigger swimming bird things who are not scared of me and have hissy fits and swans are really big white swimming bird things who just look at me disdainfully.

So hope that helps you my pals next time you have a walk round a lake.

There were lots of people and other dogs – I met a lovely little Chihuahua and gave him one of my business cards so he can check out cool places to take his human to stay. All the people we met were really friendly and I got lots of fussing over which was a bonus.

There were lots of things to see apart from the swimming birds; there were people in boats; people fishing and a man with little remote control boats on part of the lake. They looked lots of fun to play with but Hum told me they weren’t toys for me.

All in all a very pleasant place to walk – just right for a Sunday afternoon stroll.

Dakota Nottingham

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Hi Dog Pals,

So after Human Mum (Hum) took me to Newstead Abbey at the weekend for a walk, we went for a bite to eat and to check out the rooms at the Dakota, Nottingham.

This is so close to where we live I am surprised Hum hasn’t brought me here before! And it is very impressive too! The building is all sleek and glass and brick and very cool.

Hum has visited here in the past with family for meals but also for many business meetings. And she just assumed that business hotels and dogs don’t usually mix.

How wrong could she have been! We were welcomed by the very professional Gemma who had two rooms ready for us to look at – a Standard and an Executive. Natalie was really lovely and took us to view the rooms. Both rooms were wonderful but the Executive is bigger on an upper floor with a nice view and a hamper for the humans. Hum liked it a lot!

I posed for a few photos, checked out the human bathroom facilities (very nice) and then we went downstairs for lunch.

Dogs are allowed in the lobby and the White Lounge. Hum was ‘what the white lounge for dogs?’ but she really must not prejudge our behaviour.

The lobby is beautiful and spacious with fantastic leather sofas and a pretty impressive fire but we chose the lounge as it was a warm day.

Very chic and relaxing and with a good menu. We were going to have another Caesar Salad but I fancied a change and ordered the Club Sandwich. Well my dog friends if nothing else visit the Dakota Nottingham for that. Sensational – the ham in particular.

Not sure why Hum got upset when I ate it all……

4 paw prints – would be 5 except you need to bring your own bed and stuff.
