Longlands Inn & Restaurant, Lancashire

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Hey dog Pals,

So I have started my BIG summer adventure to Northern Ireland where Hum’s Mum lives but will be stopping enroute to bring you some good dog friendly venues I hope!

First stop was a place called Longlands Inn and Restaurant. Now this is JUST a REALLY short way from the BIG, NOISEY, road we were on that Hum told me was the motorway. BUT when we stopped here it was SO peaceful and quiet – Hum was totally amazed!!!

We got met by the lovely Kirsty who Hum had spoken to on the phone and she really welcomed us! She got me to try to sign in – not an easy task so Hum helped…

Kirsty showed us to a very pleasant (but a bit bland according to Hum) room…that overlooked sheep fields (yep those fluffy things I like to chase) I LOVED the big window seat where I could check them out! It was surprisingly quiet said Hum!

I was more interested in what was for me! A BIG bed; blanket; towel and dog bowls with poo bags BUT it didn’t take me long to spot one was filled with super duper treats! Yeah! Thanks Kirsty! YUM!!! Del-ic-eous!!!

Hum totally liked the window seat; the space in the room and the bathroom. No face cloth but the toiletries apparently were excellent! Hum LOVED them! She seemed very happy!

Kirsty showed us a great walk by the canal – so amazing that this is just right beside the big busy motorway road thing BUT so peaceful and nice – fields of horses and cows and the silly sheep thingys and ponds and boats and a marina and just WOW! Really lovely to explore on walks. I met lots of other dogs and all their Humans told Hum how fantastically dog friendly Longlands is and how they all revisit.

Back to the Inn for dinner and fortunately the chicken Caesar salad was finished so Hum ordered a thing called a Barnsley chop – Oh my that was good and a yummy bone to chew on!! Good old Hum! I like the Longlands so far!

Hum thought the bed was super comfy and said she slept like a log – think this just meant she didn’t want to get up – lazy Hum!!!

Only downside of the room was in the morning we could hear the people in the next room and Hum said just as well it wasn’t the honeymoon suite! Not sure what she means!

A quick trip outside for my morning ablutions and then breakfast. We had a table in the bar area – in fact the whole bar area was ours! Very pleasant. AND not only did I get a bowl of water BUT also a BIG bowl of little dog biscuits! WOW now that was very impressive and they were very tasty.

Hum had eggs and soldiers and shared some with me – Very yummy! Good eggs! And Hum said the coffee was excellent so she was a very happy Hum indeed.

After breakfast another walk along the canal and more dogs to meet and creatures to see. Then back to the room for ANOTHER coffee for Hum and time for me to start writing up my Blog before setting off to the next destination.

All in all I can TOTally, ABSolutely recommend to take your Humans to stay at Longlands. And I give it a super duper high five paw prints!!

Chiswick, London

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]So my dear doggie friends,

I am putting pen to paper (or rather paws to key board) to tell you more about my London adventure.

We had gone to London for Hum’s little granddaughter’s birthday and as they lived in Chiswick that is where we spent some time. Chiswick has been chosen as one of the five best places to live in London according to a guide which described W4 as “a family oasis par excellence.” Wow that sounds good BUT the test was whether it was also par excellence when it came to us dogs!

So while preparations were underway for the birthday party, Hum and her stepson took me out and about in Sunny Chiswick to test just how dog friendly part of Greater London could be! I mean, not that I am a country bumpkin or anything BUT I am used to living in a village with fields and woods and suchlike to walk in. Not used to streets and pavements and SO MANY people!

Anyway off we set and I must say I was pleasantly surprised! First off there was a nice park to play in at Homefield Recreation Ground and apparently there is also a place called Chiswick House where there are lots of dog friendly areas to play in.

Then on Chiswick High Road is a BIG statue of a man with a dog – so that is a good sign. Apparently this is a statue of the artist Hogarth and his beloved dog and he lived in Chiswick. Good stuff making sure the dog was honoured. I did take this as a REAL positive!

And I was not disappointed! Hey guys check me out in my bandana! I got this from Metro Bank – a dog friendly bank no less! They have a dog mascot and bowls of water at the entrance and I was also given a nice ball to play with!

It didn’t stop there – there were SO many shops which were dog friendly and you can see in the photos some we visited.

First off the pet shop (well it had to be dog friendly l guess). Then we went to a shop called Whisk which sells kitchen stuff but they like dogs! Hack & Veldt Delicatessen had a bowl outside labelled ‘Dog Café’ (how cute)! Now as you possibly know I am not a fan of communal drinking so I was most impressed that Swirl (a yoghurt shop apparently) had a nice big bowl of biscuits – now that is proper dog friendly – thanks Swirl!!!

Finally along Chiswick High Street we came across a man making a lovely dog sculpture out of sand! Not sure why but it was a thing of beauty and just confirmed that the people of Chiswick like dogs and treat us with respect.

So now Chiswick is on my Dog Blog guide as a good place to live whether you have four legs or two and certainly worth a visit.

Sage’s stay at Arundel House, Whitby

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Hello Doggy Friends,

My name is Sage, and I visited Whitby with my Hum. We stayed at Arundel House – a B&B which we found on Zuki’s lovely website here – there are some REALLY good places to stay if you get your Humans to check out the ‘Listings’ page!

Anyway we went to Arundel House and I loved the room we stayed in as the window went all the way to the floor so I could sit and watch humans and other doggy friends outside. I wasn’t allowed to eat in the Breakfast room, but me and my Hum could sit outside for breakfast.

We took a daytrip to North York Moors National Park – They have some areas where dogs are allowed – and there is a small café where I was allowed to sit both inside and out.

It was a good day out and I met these BIG black and white animals. Hum told me they are cows and you get milk from them! Wow! That sounds useful…Anyways I wos glad they had their side of the fence and I mine ’cos they had HUGE tongues and tried to lick me – a bit yucky!

I wasn’t so sure of the amount of humans walking around Whitby, so preferred to walk a quieter way to the beach. Once at Whitby beach (my hum had to make sure we stayed in the dog friendly sections) I loved running on the sand, although the sea was big and scary and waves chased after me, not for me!

Humans in Whitby were all really friendly to me, and one man even gave me a full chip shop sausage!

I can’t wait to return to Whitby!

St. Pancras Renaissance London Hotel

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Hi my doggie friends,

OK so for our last night in London we did a shift in type of hotel – from Travelodge to the 5 star St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel!

Now we have got this hotel listed on our website and I have been dying to go stay there! It is SO splendid a building! And they have a dog mascot – a Dalmatian ‘cos they filmed 101 Dalmatians here! And Madeleine the Communications Manageress had told Hum all about the St. Pancras Pooch Package when we were listing the hotel on the Have Dog Can Travel website and it sounded Fab-U-Lous! I SO wanted the Woof Box!

I had hoped that Hum would have booked the St. Pancras Pooch Package for me but she didn’t (mean Hum) so I got in touch with Madeleine and she said seeing as how it was me and I was promoting the hotel on my website and all, that she would let me sample some of what the St. Pancras Pooch Package offered! Yeah! Hum should be most grateful – I got us (or rather me) an upgrade – I am a clever dog! The Woof Box would be mine!

We travelled across town on the Underground and arrived at the very impressive entrance to the St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel. Now this IS true style! A proper big, beautiful, classy hotel! Thanks Hum! This is very fitting for me indeed. Just my sort of place!

When we went up the steps into the hotel, it was AMAZING! We were greeted by very smart people in uniforms and everyone knew my name! Like EVERYONE! SO Cool! Love it! Love it! Love it! They all talked to me and said they were expecting my arrival. Hum was impressed but I think she was a little jealous of all the attention I got. But then I am the VIP! I mean I do the reviews on MY Blog.

The lovely Thomas showed us to our room and I think Hum had an upgrade too! We got a Premium Barlow Room so it was bigger than standard and had one of those chaise things Hum so likes to lounge on to read the paper. It was in a quiet location too – just as Hum likes.

As Hum says, it is all the little things that make a difference. For me it was the upgraded dog bowls in the room. Yeah! The BIG furry bed. Yeah! The Woof Box! Yeah! That Flamingo Toy! BIG Yeah! Love Pinky Flamingo! Pinky Flamingo squawks when I squeeze her! Yummy treats and a little book about Peggy Lee’s travels in London for Hum to check out! Peggy Lee is another dog BTW. Oh and Madeleine had left us a lovely welcome note too 🙂

Hum also noted the little things that made a difference for the Humans. Especially in the bathroom it seemed – the one area I have to ask Hum for help to review ‘cos I don’t use it…

OK – so first off there was a bath mat (had been missing in Travelodge); and a face flannel (another thing not often offered apparently). And a little seat for Hum to sit on to put all that make up stuff on her face in the morning (not that it makes a jot of difference!). Hum went crazy to tell me that not only was the toilet roll folded in the obligatory triangle (why?) BUT it had a little St. Pancras sticker on that she loved! Humans really do love odd things but they do say it makes it special so who am I to argue!

Hum also got the fluffiest robe ever! And slippers too – she had a shower in the morning –she got all dressed up in this for her coffee and TV fix ‘He he’ – not seen her like that before 😉 Now this was her one complaint – the instant coffee sachets – she felt there could have been better coffee; a cafetiere perhaps? Coffee of the month maybe? And those nasty milk mini cartons – not 5 star…..

However things took a turn for the up….

When we went to the Hansom Lounge where Tom, Aurelia and little M were meeting us, it was again the little touches. A table reserved for us before Hum asked.

Nothing was spelt out – just done without a fuss and with attention to detail. Subtlety and luxury is a GOOD combination!!! Very relaxing and gives you a feel-good factor!

People seemed to pre-empt our needs so you never needed to ask for anything – I got water offered straight off and nothing was too much bother. AND everyone complimented me and said how good I was and how cute too! LOVE that sort of attention!

We had a lovely meal with the family. Hum ordered steak and it was excellent – very very good! The rest of the family including little M got all they needed and there was a lovely little place for M to play and colour and stuff like little people do.

I slept AMAZINGLY well!!! As did Hum. She said the pillows were like sleeping on clouds and I can tell you she is a bit of a pillow connoisseur! I had a hard time getting her out of her bed in the morning! BUT eventually she got up and there was this lovely man in the hotel called the Concierge who sorted us a map and stuff so I could do my morning ablutions. Now there is a little park nearby with an area you can get off lead to play – not the prettiest place but immensely practical for early morning.

We headed back for breakfast. Now that was a pretty breakfast and very tasty too! Really really good! Hum ate the green stuff as ever and I enjoyed perfectly poached eggs.

The nice Concierge man, James, sorted us another walk – this time by the canal (Hum likes her water walks). He did say he would try to compile a list of dog friendly walks to have on site for us four-legged visitors in future – good stuff James!

Then back to the hotel. Hum packed up and we had coffee (well I had biscuits and water) with the charming Madeleine who had helped orchestrate our visit and had made it amazingly personal and brilliant and fun and relaxing and everything wonderful. Hum agreed with me – she felt fab and we felt like we had had a much longer time away – like a proper holiday condensed but with the relaxation factor multiplied! Very Very Good indeed.

Take you and your humans there – one night makes life special! I promise!

Oh and if you either book by calling our K9 Concierge OR let us know you booked having read about the hotel on our website then I will ask Madeleine to ensure you have a special treat in your room.

Travelodge Kew Bridge, @travelodgeUK

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Hey dog pals,

Our first hotel in London was Travelodge Kew Bridge. When we got here it was raining SO hard and everyone was soaking wet waiting to check in – just lots of people dripping everywhere! SO the poor people behind the reception desk didn’t have time to make a big fuss of me then. BUT on the other hand, they did treat it as totally normal that I should be checking into the hotel and maybe that is how it ought to be everywhere….

And when Hum (Human Mum) asked if there was anywhere we could go to have a drink, they were really, really kind. ‘Cos of the rain they said that although dogs are not usually allowed in the bar/restaurant area, that we were welcome to go in – there was no way we could sit outside! So very kind!

The bed room was nice and big and bright and I had fun making a little den with my bed and toys under Hum’s BIG bed – it was a big bed she got! Travelodge don’t provide any facilities for dogs staying so you need to bring your own bedding; blankie; bowls; food etc.

Hum and I slept really well and in the morning I got a REALLY FANTASTIC welcome at reception. Look at me! Maybe I can be the Travelodge Dog?

There is a grassy area just at the side of the hotel or across the road is the Thames Walk and Waterman’s Park next to the river so good places to walk very close to the hotel which is most useful and quite pleasant indeed.

When we came in for breakfast we were again allowed into the bar/café area so very nice, friendly service indeed!

We stayed at Travelodge Kew Bridge for 2 nights and on both mornings breakfast was a tad chaotic. It was really busy and so there was often a shortage of glasses for juice for Hum/water for me; a shortage of cutlery and the food was OK – not as delicious as some places we have stayed – let’s just say the eggs did taste better than they looked (I am not the only one to say that). Everyone was really, really nice to me however – just all a bit frantic and could have been more relaxing…

There were other things Hum noted – the good first:

I think she likes places like Travelodge ‘cos you know what to expect and there can be no ‘room envy’ – all the rooms are much the same so you can’t wonder if someone is in something much more fancy.

So Hum liked the room AND she LOVED the de-misting mirror in the bathroom so she could sort her face out in the morning and put that make-up stuff on that she thinks makes her look better…mmm she is delusional.

However the room for improvement:

She commented that that there was no bath mat so the floor got really wet when she got out of the shower and there was no face flannel (although that is the case in lots of hotels).

Also her coffee sachets weren’t replenished and she is a grumpy Hum without her caffeine fix!

Still overall Travelodge is a great place to stop over – you get a good night’s sleep in a very pleasant room and overall Hum would agree with me that it is practical; pleasant and very good value for money.

We will definitely stay at other Travelodges but it might take a while to review them all – after all there are 500 of them and they all allow us dogs to stay!

Go, take your Humans, travel and enjoy!

Transport for London @TfL

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Hey dog friends,

Let me tell you the next part of my wonderful London adventure!

When we got to London it was wet. And I mean WET! Not just a little bit of rain but a MASSIVE downpour. Lots and LOTS of rain. Hum had to stop and drag her and my raincoats out of her backpack so I could go outside the station for a quick toilet break before next part of our journey.

Back into the station we went and then Down and DOWN on these weird moving stairs called escalators. Glad Hum (Human Mum) had the forethought to carry our stuff on her back so she could carry me on those! Still I kept calm and tried to look ‘COOL’ like I do this every day and am not at all fazed by it! Moving stairs are not natural I am sure!

We were travelling on the Underground or Tube as it is known in London – other cities have other names apparently – Metro; Subway and such like but in London it is the Tube. Got to ensure you know the right terminology my friends so you too will be ‘cool’ about town.

Well Tube trains are odd but OK when you get used to them. Deep in a tunnel and they go very fast and stop a lot and a lot of people get on and off at all the different stations. We did that at one point – to change train and tube line apparently – they have lots of different train lines to get you to the right destination. And all the lines have different names and colours – we went on deep blue Piccadilly Line and dark green District Line!

SO anyway it was fine – really my dog friends, the best idea is to lie down and not in the way ‘cos there are SO many people and so many feet to negotiate as a little dog! And all the people seem busy busy and agitated to get to where they need to go and all squeeze in so you have to be careful. Still people were very nice to me when they saw me and I got some lovely strokes from some cute children so I was happy.

We reached a station in Chiswick called Turnham Green and out we got into the RAIN. That RAIN! Yeuk – I hate getting my hair wet!

Both Hum and I were getting soaked but we battled on to a thing called a Bus Stop where another form of London transport was on offer. A Big red thing called a BUS. As far as I can make out a bus is like a super big car that carries lots of humans and us dogs are allowed as long as we don’t sit on the seats. The big red bus thing was very hot and very noisy but very efficient and took us safely if somewhat soggy to our hotel.

Virgin Trains East Coast

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Hey Dog Pals,

What a treat I had at the weekend! A REAL, PROPER grown-up adventure indeed!!!

Hum (Human Mum) told me we were going to the big city of London for the weekend! And having new experiences – the first being Train Travel on Virgin Trains East Coast! She said it would be good for me to try this out and then let you all know what it is like.

So on Friday afternoon, Hum and I set off to Grantham Station where first off the Customer Service lady was SO friendly and gave me cuddles 🙂

I checked to see if our train was on time on the BIG screen things on the station platform and then we got onto the Virgin Trains East Coast train! And of course Hum had booked me 1st class – well I deserve it!

Actually, Hum says to tell you to let your Humans know that if you book on-line on the computer thingy in good time it is REALLY good value. Our ticket was £25 from Grantham to London; food and drink provided and us small dogs travel free! How good is that!

I wasn’t sure about the movement of the train at first but soon managed to settle – best to lie down although I did sit up to share Hum’s food and for my 1st Class travel, photo opportunity 😉

There were lovely ladies who came and gave Hum cups of tea and then food!! We had a fish cake and boy was it good!! LOVED it!!

Oh and then another lady came with drinks! Check me out being offered a beer 😉 Apparently Hum says I’m not old enough for that stuff so I got a bottle of water instead. They really did look after me ever so well.

We arrived on time at a station in London called King’s Cross and I can honestly recommend this sort of travel to all my four-legged friends. Tell your Humans and spread the word – this was indeed a (1st) class journey and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Rail travel is definitely a good way to get around (be sure to book in advance and get that 1st class ticket) 🙂

The Bell Hotel, Saxmundham, Suffolk

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Hi my doggie friends,

When we were in Suffolk last weekend we visited the Bell Hotel in Saxmundham near Happy Days Retro Vacations where we were staying in Betsy the Airstream.

The Bell turned out to be a very nice place indeed and very dog friendly. We were welcomed by Luke the supervisor who made sure we were seated in the bar and brought me a proper dog bowl of water (not just an empty ice cream tub or such-like that some places provide). He also brought me a little dish of treats – I hadn’t seen treats like these before – they were really pretty bright coloured – pink and yellow – Hum said they looked like sweets for dogs! And they were yummy too!

Hum ordered Sea Bass Salade Niçoise. I got my napkin sorted (well I tried anyway) and sat up all good and ready to share (well have the best bits) – I really enjoyed the crispy fish skin and the egg! Hum as usual ate all the healthy stuff – tomato, beans, general salad stuff – she said there were micro-leaves, anchovies and potatoes and told Tom the General Manager it was delicious – perfectly dressed and seasoned so she really enjoyed that meal!

The Bell really was most dog friendly – I noticed that all the other dogs in the bar were catered for with treats even if their humans weren’t eating.

You can’t stay in the rooms at the Bell but definitely worth a trip to sample the food!

The Bell Inn, Walberswick, Suffolk

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Hi my doggie friends,

The Bell Inn Walberswick was as really good find. After a not so promising time in Southwold and being told by locals (lovely couple with really friendly Boxer in tow) that they rated pubs in Walberswick better, Hum (Human Mum) and I set off back across on the Ferry to The Bell Inn.

Must say it was a good recommendation! Made welcome in all the bar areas – lots of little nooks and crannies to sit in PLUS a HUGE garden with sea views.

The garden was full so we found a lovely spot in the bar where Hum could look out to the garden and the sea and I could relax. It was really tranquil and calming considering how busy it was!

The lovely Jo made us feel especially welcome. Talked about the fact they have 2 dog friendly rooms at The Bell Inn with dogs on the wall paper even!!!! Hey Brill Idea!!! Hope Hum realises that is the way to go décor-wise at home!

Hum ordered a smoked cod fish finger sandwich – hey guys – smoked fish is REALLY good! Yum! Yum Yum!

Jo was happy to get me my own water – yeah! And a gravy bone biscuit for my afters – thanks Jo!

Seriously good and I even heard the staff whispering they prefer dogs to children 😉

Bring your humans! Defo – got to give 5 paws.

Walberswick, Suffolk

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Hi my doggie friends,

The delightful Jenny at Happy Days Retro Vacations told us about Walberswick beach so off we set on our grand Suffolk adventure.

Now this IS a dog friendly place – even the Car Park Attendant had treats in her pocket and fresh water for me!!!!

A lovely beach – lots more sand than Sizewell which we had tried the day before so Hum was happy not having pebbles making her feet sore. Hum did her getting in the water swimmy thing that I just don’t get – doesn’t look natural to me! And I know I CAN swim – I mean there is a stroke called Doggy Paddle after all BUT I just choose not to – don’t want to get my lovely hair wet now it has been styled for summer and all that! Plus I do worry those big splashy wave things will carry Hum out to sea and then what would I do? 😦

So when Hum was back on dry land we played ball and then went for a walk to catch the dog friendly Ferry to Southwold (note you have to pay for children and bicycles but us four-legged folks go free) 🙂

Wow – not been on a boat before and I wasn’t sure at first but found my sea legs and it was rather fun!

After a disappointing time in Southwold (which I already told you about), we came back and I met a lovely little Jack Russell puppy called Binky. Much better return journey having found a little friend to travel with 🙂

Both The Anchor and The Bell in Walberswick are dog friendly but we chose The Bell ‘cos the car park lady said she thought it was the most dog friendly of the two. And we weren’t disappointed. Will tell you about The Bell in another Blog entry soon!

Zuki

A definite 5 paw prints 🙂
